Mirepoix

I’m a little bummed to be done with Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite holiday and I had the best time (despite three tantrums from Sir Finn) so coming back to reality – especially a freezing cold one – is tough. But we are keeping the celebrations going! This weekend we’ll be partying for Finn’s 4th birthday and then it’s straight into Chanukah and Christmas prep. I do love this season!

I did big grow up in a turkey trot family, but Albert changed that when he started coming to Savannah with me for Thanksgiving. I do miss watching the parade in my pajamas, but I really enjoy starting the day with a sweat, followed by good coffee from a favorite local spot. Mostly, though, I’m in it for the Frito pie they give out at the end of the race. If they ever stop serving it, I will likely stop running. It was as good as ever this year.

Savannah has a truly incredible bookstore that people just don’t talk about enough. E. Shaver’s has been around since 1975 and has a beautifully windy layout and phenomenal selection. When V requested to go to the bookstore on Saturday (like he does every Saturday…apparently city doesn’t matter), I knew exactly where to take him.

It’s pretty unbelievable, but Finn uses the same dishes my brother and I did when we were kids/babies. None of that silicone and bamboo nonsense for our generation. Somehow, even though it’s all breakable, it’s lasted forever…until now. Apparently my child is simply too much and managed to break a Wedgewood cup my mom has protected and used for nearly 44 years. It was sad (though strangely apropos since we had just read and purchased a book called “Broken” about a child breaking a cup earlier that very same afternoon), but lucky for us replacements.com exists. What an amazing site! I already had a new cup sent to my Mom and all is right with the world.
